Since 1993, the Career Visions program at William S Hart Union High School District has helped thousands of youth in the Santa Clarita Valley to gain practical work experience while assisting the local educational planning team in the development of tangible vocational exploration and transition goals. In addition to paid placement for Valley Youth ages 14-22, Career Visions offers fully supported workforce preparation training in the following areas:
- Finding a Job (internet and newspaper searching) - Completing Job Applications (electronic and paper) - Resume Development (electronic) - Interview Training - Integrated Workforce Preparation Portfolio - Interest and Aptitude Assessment - Post Secondary Job Development Services
To support your child's vocational skills development, Career Visions maintains a team of dedicated Career Transition Advisors(CTAs), support staff, and Job Coaches in addition to direct training support from local Valley employers committed to the Career Visions mission.
Initial service consideration begins with a program referral to determine eligibility. Completed referrals can be submitted to the site specific CTA assigned to your child's school or processed directly at Career Visions Headquarters located at the District Office on Centre Pointe Parkway. Upon intake, assigned program staff use interest inventory and transitional planning profile findings to suggest the work training site in closest alignment with your student's interests. Before paid placement at a job site, each applicant must complete minimum workforce preparation requirements while demonstrating proficiency in the following core areas: job hunting, completing employment applications, resume, cover letter, and interviewing. Since Career Visions subscribes to realistic work training model, all applicants must arrange, attend, and complete a competitive employment interview at the site of choice. Upon hire, Career Visions, the employer, and student enter into a formal fifty (50) hour “review to hire” training period in which the employer agrees to offer the student part time employment upon contractual completion and successful eight (8) week evaluation if economically feasible. In the interest of reinforcing work ethic in our younger students, 25% of all subsidized wage allocations are reserved for students aged 14-15 years.
